The Worth of a Man

How has your self-esteem been lately? Do you feel like you are valuable as a human being? What's your self worth? These are questions we are all faced with during our short stay on this earth. I want to examine Psalm 8 today. If you haven't read my experience with this chapter, I encourage you to look at the previous post.

David begins this Psalm in the same manner that he begins many: praising the Lord. God will bless His people and He loves when we give him glory and honor. David acknowledges the Lord's omnipotence straight away.

Even as an infant, God ordains us with power from on high. We gain spiritual strength that only a true Lord and Savior can give us. Not only has He ordained us, He has ordained the "heavens [and] the moon and the stars". Our God is a wonderful, amazing, loving God.

"What is man, that thou art mindful of him?" We are nothing, for sin has corrupted an incorruptible creation... not because we are perfect, but our Father in heaven is perfect. The Psalmist goes on to further state, that we are "a little lower than the angels, and.. crowned.. with glory and honour." This is an astonishing position for lowly man to have. We are not worthy... but Jesus is.

We have been put in charge of the earth! Our Father gave us a world to inhabit and a world to affect in one way or another. "Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet". He also gave authority over every single one of the animals. Whether it be the birds, or the fish or your dog, Spot! "O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!"

In conclusion, the worth of a man is truly priceless. We are our Father's beloved Creation, and He is our perfect Master. The blood of Jesus is the only thing seperating me from being a sinner, or a Child of God... and I choose Jesus.
